The Minister of Transportation Merav Michaeli announced this evening (Thursday) the return of train activity in the evening and on Friday between Haifa and Tel Aviv starting in January 2023, a year earlier than planned. 

"Following long and hard work led by the employees of the Ministry of Transportation and Israel Railways under the direction of Minister Rav Michaeli, the schedule for the electrification project on the railway line between Haifa and Tel Aviv was brought forward this year, so that starting in January 2023, trains on this line will be returned in the late evening hours and on Fridays," Minister Michaeli's office said . 

The return of this service will allow passengers in Haifa and Tel Aviv to go back to relying on the train as the main means of transportation and will expand the ability to connect the two metropolises.

According to Minister Rav Michaeli: "After tremendous efforts, an investment of money and also a concentrated effort on the part of many female and male employees of the Israel Railways, in the management, the board of directors and the Ministry of Transportation, we are bringing the return of the trains to Haifa a year ahead, so that as early as this January in 2023, the trains between Haifa and Tel Aviv are returning in the evening and on Fridays.

"The electrification of the train is a first-rate national project and it is critical that we stop using a polluting and old diesel train and switch to an electric train, which is cleaner, quieter and faster. They started this project already a decade ago, and I am proud that out of a little over 500 km of electrification, we have done half of it In the last year, we are speeding up and speeding up the continuation of the project with all our might.
