Members of the DAB Legislative Council Li Huiqiong, Zhang Guojun, and Chen Hengpin held a press conference today (23) and put forward a number of proposals, including the reorganization of the Development Bureau and the Transport and Housing Bureau to "Housing, Planning and Lands Bureau" and "Transport and Works Bureau" After the reorganization, the Housing Department, Buildings Department, and Lands Department will be included in the "Housing, Planning and Lands Bureau"; as for the Transport Department and Highways Department, they will be included in the "Transport and Works Bureau."
The Chairman of the DAB, Li Huiqiong, said that land and housing are the most pressing issues in Hong Kong. It will take longer for two bureaux to deal with it across bureaux. It is hoped that the centralization of one policy bureau can shorten the processing procedures.
The DAB also proposed the establishment of a "Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau" to be responsible for policies on culture, art, tourism and sports. The Tourism Commission, the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the Radio Television Hong Kong and the Information Services Department will be included in the bureau.
The Constitutional and Mainland Affairs Bureau needs to be renamed the "Mainland and Constitutional Affairs Bureau" in order to strengthen Mainland affairs and to comply with the 14th Five-Year Plan of the country.
