Battery factory in Grünheide: 500,000 vehicles per year

For a better connection to its plant in Grünheide near Berlin, Tesla has bought an existing track from the German regional railway group DRE.
This was confirmed by a spokeswoman for the Ministry of Infrastructure and State Planning.
The US electric car manufacturer plans to run a shuttle train between Erkner and a new stop on the track south of the factory premises until the new Fangschleuse train station is commissioned.
Tesla is responsible for the planning, construction and operation of the SPNV shuttle, including the stop, the ministry said.

Approval in the final phase
Tesla boss Elon Musk had originally hoped to start producing electric cars in Grünheide last year.
But the planning application was expanded to include a battery factory, which lengthened the approval process.
According to the Ministry of the Environment, the test is in the final phase.
Tesla builds the car plant in Grünheide through early approvals.
Vehicles are already being produced for test purposes via early approval.
The company has so far assumed that the car plant can produce 500,000 vehicles per year at full capacity.
Environmentalists fear that the settlement will result in a lack of drinking water in the region, including in Berlin.
