Today, when you enjoy the pastoralism that surrounds everything and looks in all directions, it's a little hard to believe - but the islands of Paros and Naxos have undergone many upheavals and conquests over the generations.

The Macedonians ruled them, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Venetian dukes, the Ottomans and who did not.

Today, everything is pastoral, but the past is seen here from all sides.

Live more than ever.

Paros: What is good for the Greeks

The island of Paros, surrounded by the waters of the Aegean Sea, is part of the Cycladic islands. It received its fame in ancient times thanks to its natural resources, mainly mines, but today most of its fame is in tourism, and it seems that there is not a single settlement or village here that has not become one resort town in one way or another. In the positive sense of the word, of course.

This is why Paros is considered one of the pearls of the Greek islands: its beaches are magnetized, its taverns are fine and full of atmosphere and its accommodation sites are considered recommended of their kind. And this is also the reason why the island is loved by the Greek travelers themselves. And when it comes to islands - the Greeks probably know what's good.

And another advantage - here it is surprisingly easy to put together a customized vacation for yourself and not necessarily be locked into a fixed and rigid deal. Pick a beach from here, a tavern from there - and you're set.

And if we've already talked about pastoralism - do not let this pleasant word fool you. Because those who want it, will also find quite a few stormy entertainment options on the island, especially in the nightlife sector.

On the other hand, wake-up callers (and in general) can enjoy Paros on wonderful walks in the heart of nature - from light and short family trips to long trips designed for the well-traveled.

One of the popular hiking trails is the Lefkes-Prodromos Trail, which only takes about an hour to walk, but it will definitely be etched in your memory thanks to the views it offers.

To complete the active scene - Paros is also known for its diving and surfing sites.

In short, it is an island designed for any style of vacation - from relaxed beach resorts to active types who are unable to sit in one place for a moment.

All this goodness can be reached by boat from the port of Piraeus or by domestic flight.

Beyond the bright natural colors of Paros, the island also offers a (almost) urban scene. In small. We are talking about Parikia, the capital of Paros. The word "city" can be misleading. It is a kind of "upgraded village", with beautiful lovely corners. These include alleys that seem to have been taken from travel books, bustling art galleries, great taverns and restaurants and countless gleaming white houses. In the heart of the village, at the top of a hill, stands a Venetian castle with pride (you read that right. This is a relic from the days of the Venetian occupation). It was established in the 13th century and from its head you will get a breathtaking panoramic view over the whole area.

As in other island capitals, here too churches have a place of honor. Try for example the sixth century Katapoliani Church, which is full of ancient atmosphere. Another must-see site, even if you are not in the museum section - is a visit to the Byzantine Museum in Parikia. It is replete with icons, reliefs and wood carvings, collected from all over the island. And those who want to trace the island's glorious mining history, will visit the marble quarries site at Marathi, where the precious stone was quarried thousands of years ago.

One of the recommended experiences in Paros is to just go out and discover the island villages. A good start to the experience is offered by the colorful village of Naoussa, which has archeological remains, the ruins of a Venetian fortress and also a small and picturesque harbor. Those interested in high-altitude views will ascend to the village of Lefkes, located at the highest point on the island and offering panoramic views. It even has a museum dedicated to Aegean culture. Do not miss - even at the non-binding peek level.

And from the village - to the sea.

Because after all, getting to a Greek island and not surrendering to the sea is an unforgivable matter.

Among the recommended beaches in Paros you will find Chrissí Aktí, Santa Maria and Poúnda.

And if you're in the section of discovering treasures - try Alykí beach, at the bottom of which you will see spectacular remains of an ancient city.

And when was the last time you signed over an archeological treasure?

Nexus: High mountains and glorious history

Naxos is the largest and greenest island among the Cycladic islands. It stretches over 430 square kilometers, is characterized by a perfectly mountainous block and holds glorious historical stories. For example, in ancient times Nexus was of paramount geopolitical importance and the local wine industry boasts supremely ancient heritage. And another detail that not many tourists know - Nexus has its roots many of the pioneers of sculpture and ancient Greek architecture.

the landscape will greet you not only includes high mountains and photogenic, but also fertile valleys, riverbeds picturesque villages seemed as if time stopped them and a dizzying array of churches, monasteries and Venetian castles.

every visit to the island must include course The capital Chora, where architectural styles from different periods blend into each other and create a dizzying look - from classic stone-paved alleys to ancient castles and medieval buildings, all along with churches, ancient fortifications and other surprises.

Here too, as in the neighboring Paros, the world of hiking attracts many nature lovers.

This is thanks to the scenic diversity offered by the island.

Recommended routes: A 12 km trek from Apiranthos to the impressive stone mines, with great views of the island's shores.

Those who prefer motorized traffic over foot traffic - will build themselves a car ride between the island's villages. Aperathos), a colorful mountain village with several museums, stone houses and cobbled alleys that you will be asked to photograph and also an ancient church. Another recommended mountain village is Filoti, located at the top of a cliff, surrounded by lush vegetation on all sides. Its houses look like stone blocks and its mysterious alleys .

and if you will Naxos at the right time, you can savor traditional cultural events and colorful fairs, where the Naxos known. for example, a festival Naxos (Naxos Festival), which offers special events throughout the summer season, or fishermen's festival, held each September.
