After acquiring Editis, the number two publishing company in France in 2019 (Robert Laffont, Nathan, Plon, Bordas), Vivendi intends to expand its range of written content.

Vivendi, owner of Canal + televisions and the Havas communications group, announced in mid-December that it had entered into exclusive negotiations with the publisher Gruner + Jahr, a subsidiary of the German Bertelsmann, in order to acquire the entire Prisma press group. Media.

The acquisition of Prisma Media could be completed during the first half of 2021. The amount of the transaction had not been revealed but would be of the order of 100 to 150 million euros, according to the latest press information.

Prisma Media is the magazine's leader in France with around twenty brands with a strong reputation.

In 2019, the group, which employs 1,200 people, achieved a turnover of 304 million euros.

The publisher currently claims a global audience of more than 42 million French people in contact every month with one of its brands, whether in paper version or via the web.

Not likely to distort advertising competition

The new entity "

will only hold significant positions in a small number of (advertising) markets in the magazine press (games, tourism / discovery and people), without however constituting an essential outlet for advertisers

Vivendi, which has very significant cash flow after the sale of stakes in major Universal Music Group, is also in a strong position within the Lagardère group, of which it is the largest shareholder, and which owns the publisher Hachette and the media the JDD, Paris Match and Europe 1. Finally, the group is among the contenders for the acquisition of certain assets of the M6 ​​/ RTL group, the sale of which Bertelsmann is considering.

In Europe, it is a minority shareholder of the Spanish group Prisa (El País, Le Monde) and of the Italian giant Mediaset.
