Patrice Hagelauer, 21 Davis Cup campaigns on the clock as a coach with seven different captains between 1978 and 1999, looks back on the blue epic of 1991 and the surprise and historic coronation against the United States.

Thirty years later, what are the most vivid memories that come to mind?

There are so many ! "The" little French "had overwhelmed the American stars. Nobody gave us a winner. Opposite was Sampras and Agassi and the world number one pair of the Flach Seguso era. When Guy (Forget) returns to the locker room after his defeat against Agassi in the opening match, Henri (Leconte) tells him: "no problem in two hours we are at one everywhere". And he makes a match of the fire of god against Sampras. Their double was magnificent on Saturday. Sunday, Guy's victory against Sampras is a monument. The atmosphere at the Palais des Sports in Gerland was crazy. No one has forgotten Yannick's Saga Africa after the victory. Another memorable memory: All the French tennis that was in the locker room after the coronation. There was Jean-Paul Loth,François Jauffret (former captains) who had worked with Leconte and Forget.
