Experts from the Düsseldorf fire brigade took around 50 reptiles, some of them highly poisonous, from a man's apartment in Hagen, North Rhine-Westphalia.

The fire brigade announced that she was deployed in the early morning of Thursday for the mission, which ultimately lasted about 14 hours.

The experts came across a veritable “private jungle” in the 45 square meter apartment on the upper floor of an apartment building and other animals in the basement.

Queues in the basement

There were numerous plants in the man's apartment, including lianas.

Overall, the man kept several highly poisonous snakes, including puff adders, rhinoceros vipers, spitting cobras, monocle and spectacled cobras.

In addition, the fire brigade found several scorpions in "unsafe and unsafe containers".

Other snakes lived in a freely accessible basement room.

The specialists put the animals in suitable containers for a species-appropriate transport and brought them to a zoological institute.

The ambulance service was available for the entire mission and could have provided medical help in the event of a snakebite or a scorpion sting.

Four firefighters, including two reptile specialists, were on duty.
