Hairstyles at the European Championships: Gold for the bun

The European Championships are also a hairy subject.

Especially for women: the splendor that often flows through them has to be tamed somehow in order to achieve the best sporting performance (men have it easier with their trend towards hair loss at a young age or towards undercuts).

So we used "Munich 2022" for a field study on women's hairstyles - and came to the conclusion: Gold goes to the bun.

This is most obvious in gymnastics, not even for the 50th anniversary of the Munich Olympics does anyone still wear the Olga Korbut memorial tail.

The hair is now straightened and knotted, it shimmers in the light of the Olympic Hall, even a little glitter is added.

The bun is sitting.

100-meter sprinter Gina Lückenkemper wears the fastest bun in Europe (tied in 10.99 seconds).

And we also spotted him on the Radbahn.

Here, however, the bun is still in tough rivalry with the ponytail and braid - science will still have to provide insights into how a head of hair can best be brought under a helmet.

The ponytail defends its territory in disciplines in which a cap is worn - it's just practical and uncomplicated.

However, we have also encountered sophisticated braided creations with some rowers.

Conclusion: The hair of athletes is in transition.
