Hama-Sana
The Hama Agriculture Directorate expected to produce about 14,367 tons of various varieties of apples during the current agricultural season.
The Director of Agriculture, Engineer Ashraf Bakir, told SANA reporter that apples are an important agricultural crop in the mountainous areas of the governorate, and are a main source of livelihood for many families, especially in the Masyaf area, indicating that the number of apple trees exceeds one million fruitful trees, most of which are of the Golden and Starken varieties.
He pointed out that the total area planted with apple trees is about 28,448 dunums, of which 3034 dunums are irrigated and 25,414 dunums are rain-fed.
The cultivation of apples in Hama is concentrated in the mountainous countryside of Masyaf, Barshin, Tin Al-Sabil, Beshawi, and Tamarqeya.
