Gray February began with three celebrations for the "Hospital zum Heiligen Geist" nursing home.

On February 5, the last Covid-19 patient tested negative.

For the first time in months, the retirement home is corona-free.

The nurses toasted with champagne.

On February 8, they celebrated Mardi Gras, the first festival since the outbreak of the pandemic.

The care team moved through the aisles with music and eggnog.

And on February 14th, Ms. Karven turned 100.

The board of directors and the nursing manager visited her in her room and congratulated her with a bouquet of flowers.

The residents and the home management seem relaxed when they talk about these days in the first half of the month.

The cheerfulness, the closeness - just a few weeks ago that would have been unthinkable.

But the Hamburg senior citizens' home has been vaccinated since mid-January: 90 percent of the home residents and 75 percent of the employees are now protected from Corona.

A few are not yet, either because they cannot because of previous illnesses or because they are still skeptical.
