The district court in Hamburg has sentenced a 17-year-old to a youth prison term of one year and four months for attacking a participant in a vigil against anti-Semitism.
He was found guilty of aggravated assault and insult.
The enforcement was suspended on probation, as the press office at the Higher Regional Court announced.
Probation conditions include community service and anti-violence training.
The 15-year-old co-accused brother of the 17-year-old was found guilty of insult.
He has to work through the crime in talks with the youth court and do community work.
The verdict is not yet legally binding.
The 61-year-old had to undergo three surgeries
The attack happened on September 18, 2021.
The older brother allegedly punched a congregant in the face, seriously injuring him.
Because of the age of the accused, the main hearing before the district court was closed to the public.
Before the trial began, the victim, a 61-year-old, said he had three surgeries after the attack.
His nasal bone, cheekbone and the bone under one eye were broken.
