Starting hurdle taken: The German handball players had little trouble at the start of the World Cup with the Czech Republic. So little effort that the lead grew even after the top players were spared.

Germany's handball women started the World Cup in Spain with the hoped-for sense of achievement.

The DHB selection won their first round game on Thursday in front of around 500 spectators in Llíria against the Czech Republic with 31:21 (17:10) and already made a big step towards the main round.

After a balanced start phase, the German team quickly got the game under control and scored three goals for the first time at 7: 4 (13th minute).

The basis for this was an aggressive defense with a good-natured goalkeeper Dinah Eckerle behind them.

Effortlessly to a sovereign victory

On the offensive, the German women exerted a lot of pressure from the back room, and the circle was always looking for a conclusion.

That turned out to be very efficient: First the DHB selection played a six-goal lead to 12: 6 (23rd), then they even expanded it to eight goals (16: 8).

In the second half, many top German players were able to save energy on the bench, but the lead was never in danger and could even be increased.

The mood after the end of the game was resolved accordingly.

“That it becomes so clear is a bit of a surprise,” said Emily Bölk, and added: “We did it well and played a good handball for 50 minutes.

Now let's see to it that we fade out the less concentrated ten minutes in the next few games. "

The best throwers in the team of national coach Henk Groener were Julia Maidhof and Alina Grijseels, each with four goals.

Further opponents of the German team in group E are Slovakia on Saturday and Hungary on Monday.

The top three advance.
