In summer, the car quickly heats up to oven temperatures.

In the sun, the 60 degrees Celsius mark is quickly cracked.

That can be dangerous.

Experts from ADAC say that many drivers are quickly distracted by the heat, which increases the risk of an accident.

Driving in the heat: These tips will make you safer on the road

  • Before driving:

Ventilate the car well, open all doors and the sunroof.

  • At the beginning of the journey:

Set the ventilation to the highest level.

  • For longer car journeys:

If you are on the road longer, use the morning or evening hours and avoid midday.

Regular breaks in the shade are also a good idea.

  • Do not leave anyone in the car - this means all

    living things

    , including dogs.

Heat in the car: Don't forget sun protection while driving

Many drivers think they are safe in their cars.

That's basically true, but you should keep a few things in mind.

For example, think about sun protection when you are out and about in summer.

The windshield filters out

UV-A and UV-B rays

, but the side windows let UV-A rays through.

This can lead to sunburn, for example.

But UV-A radiation also promotes

skin cancer

and earlier

skin aging

.

You can use an external sun

protection film on the rear car windows

attach.

It

filters

out UV radiation and

infrared radiation

, the latter being responsible for the heat generated in the car.

Important for sun protection films:

If you only stick the stickers on the rear windows, make sure to leave out the windscreen.

When buying, make sure that the packaging contains the label "General Type Approval".

How to use the air conditioner correctly - Heat in the car

Some love it, others don't like it - the air conditioner.

However, if you cool your car down significantly, this can lead to circulatory problems.

The

inside and outside temperatures

should

not differ greatly

.

Before turning on the air conditioner, make sure that the air vents are not pointed at any part of the body.

This can sometimes lead to colds or chills.

  • If the journey is short:

leave the air conditioning off, better open the windows.

  • For longer distances, the ADAC advises:

Leave the windows open until the air conditioning cools down.

A few kilometers before you reach your destination, turn off the air conditioning and leave only the ventilation on.

This way the condensed water evaporates and bacteria and fungi don't stand a chance.

It can quickly get very hot in the car.

This can have health consequences for humans.

Heat in the car: Do not leave children or animals in the car

In the summer, the 60 degree Celsius mark is quickly cracked in the car, which can quickly become life-threatening.

ADAC experts conducted a test to determine how quickly the car heats up in summer.

With an outside temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and the windows closed, the car heats up to 38 degrees Celsius within ten minutes.

45 degrees Celsius can already be measured after 20 minutes.

If two windows are slightly open, only slightly lower temperatures can be measured.

So do not leave any children or animals in the car, for them it can quickly become life-threatening, even for a short time or with the window open.

Fluids are important to endure the heat in the car

In summer, especially on longer trips, remember to drink enough.

Water, unsweetened tea or juice spritzers are best.

Be careful not to drink ice-cold drinks.

This can lead to problems in the gastrointestinal tract.

Heat in the car: A shady parking space is important

A shady spot in the car is worth a lot.

If possible, find a shady place to park the car.

Note, however, that the sun continues to move in a clockwise direction.

If you cannot find a place in the shade, you can attach a

thermal

windscreen protector to the windscreen from the outside, which reflects the sun and ensures that the car does not overheat.

If you keep this in mind, driving in the summer will be more pleasant: prevent heat in the car

  • Parking:

    in the shade if possible;

if it is a sunny spot, then it is best to park with the rear facing the sun.

  • Car blankets : Cover

the car with a protective blanket, it makes sense in both summer and winter.

  • Cover interior:

If the interior is black, then everything heats up particularly.

It is best to cover the console with a light, damp cloth.

  • Maintenance of technology:

Are all water hoses on the car in order?

Also check the tire pressure: if it is correct, you protect yourself from tire damage.
