A small local storm was in Weilheim on Thursday evening.
The district office was particularly affected by the heavy continuous rain.
Weilheim - The people of Weilheim hadn't experienced anything like this for a long time: on Thursday around 6 p.m., a real cloudburst fell over the district town and caused the streets and basements to be flooded in no time at all.
Only Weilheim was affected, and even there it did not rain the same amount everywhere, as fire brigade commander Stefan Herbst reported.
He had measured "40 liters of rain in 20 minutes" - that's a house number.
The canals could no longer hold the water, in many places the water gushed out of the gullies or could no longer flow out.
Heavy storm in Weilheim: streets and basements flooded in no time at all
The fire brigade had to be called out ten times in a very short space of time.
A pet food store was full, so it had to be pumped out, as in some blocks of flats near the Ammer.
"Most of the time the water was gone just as quickly as it came," said Herbst.
There were problems especially in the district office on Pütrichstraße.
Two buildings were affected there, Herbst said.
This is confirmed by Florian Steinbach, responsible for building management.
"We were lucky that one of our caretakers checked on things in good time in the evening and immediately alerted the fire brigade." Apparently, the water had flowed into the basement via an underground cable duct.
"It was there about four inches tall, but not for long - we've removed all the panels and are optimistic there's no permanent damage," Steinbach said.
Technology was not damaged because the room with the IT is fortunately two steps higher.
"The employees were able to work there again on Friday."
After heavy rain, numerous roads in Weilheim were closed.

Things were not going so well in the building next door, which houses the youth welfare office.
There, real floods of surface water had flowed into the basement via light shafts, according to Herbst the water was knee-deep there.
“Unfortunately we have to expect more damage.
For example, the room with the emergency generator was hit," said Steinbach.
Luckily, a specialist company has already been called in for next week to see if there is anything that can be salvaged.
"Based on the first telephone remote diagnosis, we have to assume damage of 30,000 euros."

The IT room was also affected, but fortunately the server was still working, and the electricity that had failed at first was soon back.
Nevertheless, work was out of the question there on Friday.
"Fortunately, because of the holidays, we have so many jobs free that the employees concerned could work in the neighboring building," says Steinbach.

They will probably have to do this again next week, because even though drying devices have already been set up everywhere, it is unclear when the employees will be able to move in there again.
"Maybe it'll be back on Monday, but it will probably take longer," believes Steinbach.
Storm over Weilheim: numerous files in the district office flooded
Finally, numerous files were also flooded, but there too one was lucky: "They were already in the cooling tank, so they would have been disposed of soon anyway," says Steinbach.
Approval for disposal has already been obtained for three quarters of the documents, and he hopes that this will also be the case for the rest.
Otherwise, the documents have to be dried in a time-consuming process, which could be expensive.
"The THW has set up a sandbag barrier so that nothing happens anymore," said Steinbach.
The market town of Peißenberg, which has been plagued by flooding in the past, also played it safe and activated the facility for self-filling of sandbags at the fairground.
Sand, sacks and shovels are provided there for self-filling.
"Precautions for securing the water drainage on the streets of the particularly neuralgic places in the village have been taken by the municipal building yard, the situation is constantly being monitored and evaluated," said Mayor Frank Zellner.
