(ANSA) - MILAN, OCTOBER 20 - "The only good thing that Covid did was keep me at home to work" jokes Red Canzian, presenting the result of his lockdown: the pop opera 'Casanova' - 35 unreleased tracks for 2 hours of music, 21 performers chosen from 1,700 candidates, double album with artwork by Milo Manara - which will debut in Venice on 21 January 2022.
The musical is set in Venice, in the mid-1700s: here Giacomo Casanova - played by Gian Marco Schiaretti - at the age of 35 returns after a period spent in Vienna, and here he foils a plot against the Serenissima, ending up for fall in love with young Francesca (AngelicaCinquantini). Casanova's "is a much more complex personality than that of the libertine seducer of common iconography - says Canzian - in reality a poet, alchemist, libertarian, diplomat and 'eyes' of Venice at the time of the Serenissima". After so many years, Red's Casanova is becoming reality again: despite the uncertainties linked to the pandemic, in the last 20 months 50 people have worked on the project full-time "without waiting to know when the music venues would reopen". In January, finally, the debut, and then a tour between Bergamo, Udine, Milan, Treviso and Turin.
