In view of the investigation into right-wing extremist statements by police officers in chat groups, the special task force (SEK) of the Frankfurt police headquarters is being disbanded.
The "unacceptable misconduct" of several employees make the resolution "inevitable," said Hesse's Interior Minister Peter Beuth (CDU) on Thursday in Wiesbaden.
A staff of experts should organize the restructuring of the SEK.
The investigation became known on Wednesday.
20 men between the ages of 29 and 54 are accused.
18 of them are in the SEK, two more are no longer police officers.
17 of the 20 accused are said to have shared Nazi symbols in chat groups and incited hatred, especially in the years 2016 to 2017 and also in early 2019. Including images of Hitler, swastikas and insults against asylum seekers.
Three others are accused of distributing punishments in the office: They are service group leaders who watched the goings-on and did not intervene, so the suspicion.
The LKA searched the homes of six SEK men on Wednesday, as well as their workplace, the Frankfurt Presidium.
