A fire broke out on Thursday evening on the area of a wallpaper factory in Kirchhain, Hesse.
Two men, aged 31 and 35, were brought to the hospital for an examination because of pain and suspected smoke inhalation, the police said.
Apparently there is no mortal danger.
For reasons as yet unknown, there was apparently a fire in the locksmith's shop after a loud bang, as it was called.
According to information from employees, all those present managed to leave the burning building on time.
Fire and smoke visible from afar
The police and fire brigade are on site with a strong contingent to bring the fire under control.
The scene of the fire was cordoned off over a large area.
The police said late in the evening that flames would flare up again and again.
Because of the heavy smoke development, the police asked the people in Kirchhain (Marburg-Biedenkopf district) to keep their doors and windows closed - and not to come to the scene of the fire so as not to endanger the extinguishing and rescue work and themselves.
Loudspeaker announcements were also used to warn the population.
Fire and smoke are visible from afar.
