In 2012 she became the first woman to conquer Mount Everest and its neighboring mountain Lhotse within 24 hours. In 2018 she made history with the first ski descent from Lhotse: the renowned ski mountaineer Hilaree Nelson from the USA is missing in the Himalayas.

The 49-year-old had an accident on Monday while descending Manaslu, the eighth highest mountain in the world, shortly after the summit, a spokesman for the tour organization Shangri-La Nepal Treks confirmed to the French news agency AFP.

According to the information, she was traveling with her partner Jim Morrison.

Last week, Nelson shared via Instagram that he didn't feel as safe this time "as I did on my past adventures in the thin Himalayan air.

The last few weeks have been a whole new test of my resilience«.

According to the spokesman, bad weather hampered the rescue operation on Monday.

On Tuesday, when visibility was better, a helicopter took off to look for the missing Nelson.

The BBC reported, citing eyewitness accounts, that Nelson was believed to have fallen into a crevasse.

Morrison was able to return to a camp.
