Amazon is leaving the corona crisis as the clear winner.

Now the online retailer wants to hire up to 125,000 new employees and is ahead of the competition.

Seattle / USA - The expanding Internet giant Amazon plans to hire 125,000 new employees in the USA. Among other things, warehouse workers and deliverers are being sought in "hundreds" of cities across the country, as Amazon announced on Tuesday. The company advertises with an average starting salary of 18 dollars (around 15 euros) per hour and in certain cases with a bonus of up to $ 3,000 for signing the employment contract.

Amazon's business had grown rapidly in the corona pandemic because more and more people were doing their shopping on the Internet.

But there is a catch.

The new vacancies are also seasonal: large companies hire temporary employees in the autumn with a view to the Christmas business.

Meanwhile, amid the recovery from the economic consequences of the corona pandemic, numerous companies - including restaurants - are having problems finding employees and filling vacancies.

Amazon: In the future, robots will work in the warehouses

Amazon's recruitment campaign also comes at a time when the group is pushing more and more automatic processes in its logistics centers. Just recently, the only Bavarian Amazon logistics center was rebuilt for around 150 million euros. The renovation measure will make it possible to use robots in the warehouses in the future. In this way, work processes should be run through faster and more cheaply. Although Amazon refers to 200 newly created jobs, the progressive automation is also destroying jobs. Critics also point out that the new positions can mainly be filled by highly qualified staff. Employees without a university degree, however, would be left out.
