Holzkirchen - by bike on the fast route from Otterfing to the Tegernsee - that should be possible soon.

The market town of Holzkirchen is there.

Increasing everyday bicycle traffic, reducing traffic jams and promoting tourism - expectations of the direct bicycle connection between Munich and Lake Tegernsee are high.

After other municipalities in the Miesbach district had already spoken out in favor of building the route in their area, the municipal councils in Holzkirchen now also voted in favor.

Jonas Marwein from the Bernard Group and colleague and project manager Vanessa Platt presented the results of the feasibility study that the company was entrusted with.

The aim of this is to prove the technical feasibility in order to create the basis for the planning and implementation process.

22.5 kilometers between Otterfing and Gmund

A total of 80 kilometers on nine sections and 61 different variants were completely driven over and examined and assessed according to various criteria such as quality, nature conservation and tourism.

The result was a so-called preferred road with a length of 22.5 kilometers between Otterfing and Gmund.

According to the current planning, exactly 4.2 kilometers of the route will be laid on the Holzkirchner corridor.

According to Marwein, around 50 percent of the proposed connection is on the B318 and 10 percent on secondary roads.

The remaining kilometers would have to be built as independently guided bike paths.

1.2 million euros in costs for wooden churches

A rough total cost estimate for the cycle path connection between Otterfing and Gmund currently comes to 11 million euros.

Of this, 1.2 million euros would fall on the market town.

The planners expect high funding from the federal and state governments.

They also recommend forming a steering group for the participating municipalities of Otterfing, Holzkirchen, Warngau, Waakirchen and Gmund as well as the district and the location marketing company.

“At the moment, such a cycle connection is only planned between Munich and Nuremberg in Bavaria.

That could be a lighthouse project for the Miesbach district, ”said Marwein.

Criticism of routing

The basic benefits of the project were evident to all local councils.

However, there were concerns in the group about the currently planned route.

This meets from Otterfing on the Teufelsgraben cycle path on Heignkamer and Erlkamer Straße.

Via Lechlweg and under Rosenheimer Straße it goes east along the railway line into Austraße over the kindergarten bridge into Frühlingstraße and then over Tegernseer Straße towards Warngau.

The latter would have to be provided with protective strips on both sides and changed to a 30 zone.

On the route towards Warngau, agricultural roads would be expanded and widened to 4.50 meters.

The planners recommend creating a separate bicycle road for Erlkamer Strasse.

Parking garage in the new station area in the way?

Elisabeth Dasch (SPD) was particularly concerned about the route over Erlkamer Straße, because a parking garage was planned there in the construction planning for the new station area. She suspected increasingly dangerous situations between cyclists and motorists. Project manager Platt also found this fact not entirely harmless. As Eva-Maria Schmitz from the location promotion department explained, the Fahrradstraße had already been included in the planning of the station area. Sebastian Franz (CSU) nevertheless asked to include the expertise of the police on this critical point at an early stage.

Dasch also found the route on the federal road to be a shame.

As Marwein explained, a tour along the railway line to Warngau is critical in terms of nature conservation.

However, the current route is not set in stone, although the goal of a direct and fast connection, which should not be significantly inferior to the time required by car, would be in the foreground.

Positive benefit in the ecological sense

For Hubert Müller (FWG) it was not clear why the bike connection was not via the Bahnhofs- and Otterfinger Weg: “That would be the most direct route for me.” According to Marwein, the existing buildings prevent the necessary widening of the streets there.

Wolfgang Huber (SPD) missed an ecological counter-calculation for the sealing of the agricultural roads along the federal highway.

According to Platt, this is not part of the feasibility study, but an increase in cycling and thus a reduction in vehicle traffic is a positive benefit in the ecological sense.

In the end, the committee voted against five votes in favor of initiating further planning steps for the rapid cycle connection.
