How Airbus got the better of its competitor Boeing

DECRYPTION - For the third consecutive year, the European giant is widening the gap with its American competitor.


A stall.

For three years, Boeing has been left behind by Airbus which, in 2021, retained its title as the world's leading aircraft manufacturer.

And this for the third consecutive year.

Admittedly, this is not the first time that the European giant has supplanted the American.

This was the case in 2005. But since then the match has been balanced between the two players whose market shares were close.

For three years, this balance has been upset.

And Airbus is widening the gap.

In 2021, a year still marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, Airbus succeeded in exceeding its target of deliveries of 600 aircraft, with 611 aircraft delivered to 88 customers.

"We delivered 45 more planes in 2021, an increase of 8% compared to 2020. The recovery of our activity accelerated at the end of the year",

welcomes Guillaume Faury, executive chairman of Airbus.

In this industrial field, Boeing is doing less well but has seen its situation improve after the low point reached in 2020
