The Director of the Gamalia Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology of the Russian Ministry of Health, Alexander Ginzburg, announced today that the effectiveness of the (Sputnik V) vaccine against the mutated Omicron strain of the Corona virus reaches about 75%.
Sputnik news agency quoted Ginzburg as saying during a press conference today that “the protection rate from the Omicron mutant becomes 100 percent in the case of vaccination with the Sputnik Lite vaccine after 6 months of receiving two doses of the (Sputnik V) vaccine, but in the event of no re-vaccination after 6 to 12 months have passed. From receiving two doses of the (Sputnik V) vaccine, the level of protection from (Omicron) is about 56 percent.”
It is noteworthy that the Russian Federal Agency for Biomedicine announced on the eleventh of this month the registration of the first test system to detect the Omicron strain.
The new testing system allows the identification of genetic variants of the Omicron and Delta strains and the distinction between them.
