The federal government announces the gas alert level.
This was confirmed by Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck (Greens) on Thursday.
The reason is the reduced gas supplies from Russia and the persistently high prices.
At the moment, however, the security of supply is still provided.
"The situation is serious," said Habeck.
"The throttling of gas supplies is an economic attack on us." The strategy of Russian President Vladimir Putin is to stir up uncertainty, drive up prices and divide.
“We're in a gas crisis.
Gas is now a scarce commodity.
Prices are already high and we need to brace for further increases.”
The top priority is now to fill the gas storage tanks, Habeck continued.
Alternative providers would be sought and renewable energies expanded.
In addition, more gas must be saved.
The alert level is the second of three levels of the gas emergency plan.
So far, the early warning level has applied.
The highest would be the so-called emergency level.
