Nearly ten years after its release, the song has seen a resurgence in popularity on TikTok, as part of the protest movement that is stirring Iran, The Independent reported on Tuesday, September 27.

Ten years after its release, it climbed to number 17 in the charts in the UK.

The song

Another Love

, by Tom Odell, is experiencing a resurgence in popularity in a very particular context.

The track, which was released in 2013, has been heard in multiple TikTok videos supporting the Iranian revolt, as highlighted by

on Tuesday, September 27.

After the death of Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old young woman arrested by the morality police in Tehran - responsible for enforcing the Islamic Republic's strict dress code and known for its policy of violence - many women protested in cutting their hair and burning their hijab.

They thus accompanied the sequences with a very specific passage of the piece, sung by a crowd during a concert by the singer.

It contains the following lyrics: "

And if somebody hurts you, I wanna fight/ But my hands been broken one too many times/ So I'll use my voice, I'll be so f*cking rude/ Words they always win, but I know I'll lose.

Translation: "And if someone hurts you, I wanna fight / But my hands have been broken one too many times / So I'll use my voice, I'll be so rude / Words always win, but I know that I will lose."

“We stand together”

Since then, Tom Odell has himself spoken about the revolt at work.

"I am shocked by the events taking place in Iran," he said.

I send love and loving thoughts to these incredibly brave people who are fighting for human rights and for women.”

Before adding: "Everyone should have the right to wear what they want."

The artist also dedicated his concert in Germany to Iranian activists.

“We may be a long way from Iran here in Hannover, Germany, but I think and hope I speak for everyone in this room saying that we stand in solidarity with everyone protesting for human rights and Women's rights."

In Iran, more than 80 people have lost their lives since the protests began.
