For decades, the Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi has been building spectacular rooms out of blocks of ice every winter. Artists create poetry from frozen water north of the Arctic Circle.

Icehotel in Jukkasjärvi: For the 32nd time, the ice rooms of the Icehotel were set up 200 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle.

From December to April you can spend the night between ice walls and on ice beds with reindeer skins.

The hotel also offers year-round rooms in one building.

"Dickens' Street": Every year artists, selected from around 200 applications, design twelve "Art Suites" made of ice, and there are also 15 to 20 simple "Ice Rooms".

This room mimics an English alley and pub sign and was designed by Britons Jonathan Green and Marnie Green.

»UV«, designed by the French Nicolas Triboulot and Fernand Manzi.

“› Ultra Violet ‹reminds us that our world is fragile and that what we do not see is just as important and vital as what is visible,” is how they describe their concept.

Every year in spring the ice spaces melt and the water flows into the nearby river.

Room Service: A band of monkeys is pulling the tapestries of the existing order.

A prehistoric dinosaur rumbles through the wall «, write the designers Ulrika Tallving and Tjåsa Gusfors from Sweden.

"Room service" dethrones humanity from its self-proclaimed superior role.

"Molecules": The guest should feel like one of the smallest parts that make up the world.

»The shape of the room is the shape of a water molecule and, like this, consists of three elements: The bed is in the largest atom, the oxygen atom.

On the sides it connects with the two hydrogen atoms, «is how the Germans Anja Kilian and Wolfgang Lüchow describe the concept of their ice room.

»Blue Tundra«: The Norwegian Elisabeth Kristensen from the Sami people draws attention to the migration of reindeer herds above the Arctic Circle with her room.

They are marked in a corral by their owners before they set off: “To be in a moving spiral of animals and to listen to the sound of thousands of hooves while the earth shakes is a very moving experience.

Like animals, everything moves in a circle.

The herds, the seasons, even life itself. "

»Different Natures«: »Water forms stone just as water can become stone«, write the Briton Rob Harding and his son Timsam.

In their Art Suite they had large blocks of ice chiseled into water shapes.

At minus seven to minus five degrees Celsius, guests spend the night in expedition sleeping bags; bathrooms, saunas and lockers are available in a heated building nearby.

»Inom«: »The infinite space within a defined object.

The vacuum surrounded by the matter it contains.

A person in his circle and the earth in its square.

The silence and the contemplation.

The always full emptiness.

The space.

The inner.

Inom «- this is how the Chilean multi-artist Francisco Cortes describes his design.

During the day, the suite he designed can be viewed like all the others.

“A Midsummer Night's Dream”: “What better way to express the true character of the ice than to wrap the most delicate and beautiful Swedish midsummer flowers in an arctic setting?” Asks the Swedish designer duo Bernadotte & Kylberg.

So far in the north the ice is clearer than anywhere else.

Room 'In Bed With Chickens':' We've had chickens for a few years and it's great fun to watch them go to bed.

They chat with each other about the day's events and all try to find the best place to sleep «, write Edith Van de Wetering and Wilfred Stijger from the Netherlands.

The couple once got married in the ballroom of the Icehotel, which they built at the time.

Ballroom "On Air": Not only rooms are made of ice, but also a meeting room.

Marjolein Vonk from Amsterdam and Maurizio Perron from Italy want to give their guests the feeling of flying: "Please take a lap and feel the air under your wings."
