In Idar-Oberstein, Rhineland-Palatinate, the 20-year-old cashier at a gas station was killed late on Saturday evening.
A man entered the gas station around 9:20 p.m. and shot the cashier after a brief argument, the police in Trier said.
On Sunday morning, special forces arrested a 49-year-old suspect without resistance.
There is no longer any danger for residents.
There was initially no information on the motives of the accused from the Birkenfeld district.
Investigations to date have shown that the fugitive had already visited the gas station an hour before the crime and initially left it again after a brief argument.
The police released a mug shot and asked for evidence.
