Contrary to familiar names like Linoy Ashram, Sagi Muki and Katie Spichkov, it is likely that if Artium Dolgofiat passes in front of you on the street you will not recognize him. But it was the relatively anonymous gymnast who became the first to award Israel a medal in one of the most prestigious disciplines in the Olympics, and another gold medal!

The 24-year-old Dolgofiat has long been a world-class expert in ground exercises, and yet as mentioned remains relatively in the shadows. A silver medal at the 2017 Montreal World Championships paved the way. It was also followed by a silver medal at the 201st World Championships in Stuttgart. At the European Championships held in Mersin, Turkey in 2020 he won gold on the ground and a bronze in the show jumping horse and became the first Israeli gymnast to win two medals at the same European Championships.

Whoever thought that after Alex Shtilov would remain the Israeli gymnastics team with a pit that could not be filled, was deceived by the lift from Rishon Lezion, who immigrated to Israel at the age of 12 from Ukraine and before he knew a word of Hebrew, was attached to gymnastics coach Sergei Weisburg.

His father was a gymnast himself, so it was natural for Artium to go his own way and build a career for himself in the Hadar Yosef hall.

There are not many Olympic athletes who talk openly about themselves like Dolgofyat.

He previously revealed here how instead of buying himself a new car after the grant he received following the silver medal at the World Championships in Montreal, he had to pay 100,000 shekels for new teeth because of a medical problem that accompanied him from childhood.

Dolgofiat also experiences special and even unusual pressure the night before an important competition and also in the morning on his way to the hall.

For Dolgofyat, nicknamed "the cat because of his flexibility and coordination, it was his first experience at the Olympics, and although he has already received a wealth of advice from veteran Shtilov, who has appeared twice in an Olympic final before and this time failed to qualify from the qualifiers. Come and give his best on the ground device, where he has become one of the best in the world in the last four years.
