The city of Milan dedicates a monument to the great driver Alberto Ascari, born in the Lombard capital in 1918 and who lost his life in Monza on May 26, 1955 during a test ride aboard a Ferrari 750 Sport.

The monument, inaugurated in Largo Ascari as part of the Milan Monza Motor Show, was donated to his hometown by the Milan Automobile Club and was built by maestro Francesco Triglia. The ceremony was attended by the mayor of Milan Giuseppe Sala, the president of AC Milano Geronimo La Russa, Veronica and Selvaggia Ascari, respectively grandson and great-grandson of Alberto. "This tribute will make even more indelible the memory of a Milanese sportsman who with his victories has helped to keep the Italian prestige high in the world. It is right that his hometown Milan adequately remember Alberto Ascari, the last Italian to win the Formula 1 world title and the only one to have won it twice ", declared Geronimo La Russa, president of Automobile Club Milano. The mayor of Milan,Giuseppe Sala, underlined how "Ascari deserved this memory because he was the last Italian to win the formula one championship. I believe there is no one like him. Ascari is the son of Milan and he deserves this monument".

The work has an elliptical and upward shape that alludes to a curve on which the Ferrari of the Formula 1 World Champion in 1952 and 1953 is represented.
