Continuous duel Salvini-Meloni, breaking on the curfew
(by Marcello Campo) - Between Matteo Salvini and Giorgia Meloni there is a continuous duel for supremacy in the center-right. A tension that has been going on for months and that is also being discharged on the delicate issue of curfew. Both are in favor of its cancellation, but are on opposite sides on the road to achieving this result. Thus the battle of the agendas on the possible lifting of the restrictions in May ends up giving another jolt to the Lega-Fdi relationship, widening the gap between those who have chosen to enter the government and those who, instead, as Brothers of Italy fight face to face opened the executive by the opposition.
A split made even more evident by some linguistic details, proof of an even heavier internal climate: the agreement on the agenda to which all the majority adhered in fact emerged at the end of a meeting between Salvini and the Azzurri Antonio Tajani and Licia Ronzulli. At the end of this meeting, the staff of the Lega and Forza Italia inaugurated the words "center-right of the government" which met to "take stock of the political situation with particular reference to the restrictions and the next votes in the Chamber".
A government center-right that could hardly discourage health minister Roberto Speranza in the Senate, reasoning in majority circles. The motion against the minister was always presented by Fdi and Salvini never found out on this front with the center-right allies. Also because - it is the reasoning that is done in parliamentary circles - a possible yes to mistrust would automatically lead the League out of the governing majority: something considered almost impossible. In the meantime, Brothers of Italy hammered on the curfew: "It is clear - it transpires from Meloni's party - that the government is in chaos ... Luckily the agendas counted for nothing and that this curfew was useless ..." .
The split between the FDI and the Lega on this issue is consummated plastically in Montecitorio: the agenda of the majority passes. Pricks, behind which, however, someone seems to see a clever game of parts: both Meloni and Salvini carefully avoid personal accusations. Already in the coming weeks, by the end of May, they will meet again to find unitary candidates for the next administrative offices. Meanwhile, everyone remains in the next positions to represent in a complementary way different areas of the Italian electorate faithful to the famous saying, old but always valid, of "march divided, strike united", guiding principle of the strategy of the Prussian general Helmuth Karl Bernhard Graf von Moltke . To the Brothers of Italy the task of giving a voice to those who can't take it anymore, toa broad front of the protest made up of those discontented social groups, who do not see evident differences between Count two and the Draghi government.
At the Lega, on the other hand, the role of "influencing, of counting, of conditioning from within, of representing the common sense of millions of Italians who want to return to life and work", as Salvini likes to remember. And in light of the final result, the League leaks all its satisfaction with the mediation reached on the curfew. Already in May - the green party rejoices - by evaluating the trend of infections, the measure can be changed. The pressing of Lega and Forza Italia - insist on Via Bellerio - or the 'center-right of the government', has borne fruit with a position common to all the majority.
