While a hunt is underway for Agnes Tirop's partner, Kenya mourns the death of the late runner.
Tirop only recently set a world record in the 10-kilometer field run and before that she managed to win two bronze medals at the World Athletics Championships.
A little over two months ago she missed the podium in one place at the Tokyo Olympics, after finishing in fourth place in the 5,000-meter dash.
Many senior runners and coaches made their way to the town of Eaton yesterday where Madup was stabbed to death.
Concurrent with their eulogies and those of many athletes around the globe, media in Kenya are reporting that police are still searching for her partner - the main suspect in the murder.
Meanwhile in Kenya there is also talk of cursing the athletes.
Thirop was murdered just three days after the death of decorated runner Hussa from Charingyang, and in recent years more and more local athletes have been found dead at a young age.

2009:
Jefferson Siaki, a long-distance runner who had started representing Japan two years earlier, returned to visit his homeland in Kenya and was killed after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a truck.
He was 25 at the time of his death.
2010:
Retired runner David Lley was killed in a car accident at the age of 38. Lley was an 800 and 1,500 meter runner who did not reach the top of the world and participated mainly in competitions across Africa.
After retiring he became a well-known politician.
Along with him in the car was Moses Tanoy, the world champion in the 10,000-meter dash in Tokyo in 1991 and the winner of the Boston Marathon in 1996 and 1998.
Tanoi was injured, but his life was saved.
2011:
Sami Wangiro, one of the top marathoners in the world, fell from the balcony of his home in Ghana and was pronounced dead at the hospital after efforts to save him raised pottery.
He was only 24 years old.
During an investigation into the circumstances of his death, his mother told police investigators she was convinced her son had been pushed and did not accidentally fall.
The investigation yielded suspicious findings, but to date no one has been charged.
Wangiro was the Olympic champion in the 2008 Beijing Marathon and to this day holds the Olympic record.

2018:
The world champion in the 400-meter hurdles from Beijing 2015, Nicholas Bette, lost control of his Toyota vehicle while driving at high speed, overturned and was killed on the spot.
He had returned two days earlier from the African Athletics Championships held in Nigeria.

2018:
Kenneth Moriti-Angiro, ran a 3,000-meter hurdles that represented Ghana mainly in competitions across Africa, lost control of his vehicle, collided with a heavy vehicle and was killed on the spot.
2021:
Gilbert Suet dies at age 23 after battling illness. Suat won a variety of junior titles, including gold at the 2014 Youth Olympics, in the 1,500-meter dash.
2021
: Three days before Agnes Thirop was assassinated, Ghana mourned the death of Hussein from Charingyang - a runner adorned with world championships in field running in 2004-2008. The suspicion in Kenya is that Charingyang committed suicide, although he did not leave a letter. He was 35 at the time of his death.
2021:
Agnes Tirop, a medalist from the World Athletics Championships and world champion in the 10-kilometer field run, was stabbed to death in her home.
The commander of the local police forces said that her father reported that she had lost contact with her and that is how the search for her began.
"When police arrived at the home, they found Madup lying on the bed, with a puddle of blood on the floor next to her. She was stabbed in the neck and abdomen, her husband being the main suspect."
