Each year, the great monsoon, period which extends from June to September, causes significant damage and the death of hundreds of people.

The balance sheet should very quickly climb.

At least 36 people have died in landslides caused by monsoon rains in western India, where dozens more are missing, a local official said on Friday.

Three landslides occurred Thursday in the district of Raigad, in the state of Maharashtra in the center-west of the country, according to the official.

“At least 35 to 40 people are trapped.

We are trying to help them, ”he said.

The Navy and Air Force have joined forces to help thousands of people affected by flooding.

But relief operations are complicated by the extent of the damage, including landslides that cut several roads, especially the highway between Bombay and Goa.

Mumbai under 3.5 meters of water

More than 24 hours of uninterrupted intense rainfall brought the Vashishti River out of its bed.

Neighborhoods in the locality of Chiplun, 250 km from Mumbai, were submerged under 3.5 meters of water.

Over the weekend, at least 34 people were killed in India, crushed by a collapsed wall after a landslide triggered by heavy monsoon rains in Mumbai in the west of the country.

The great monsoon, period which runs from June to September, is crucial for the life and agriculture of the Indian subcontinent, but each year causes significant damage and kills hundreds in this region of the world which hosts a fifth of humanity.
