India today (Thursday) set a world record of more than 6,000 deaths from the corona virus in just one day, after one country dramatically updated its data upwards.

The update raised suspicions that the real number of victims is much higher than what the authorities report.

According to India's Ministry of Health, 6,148 people have died in the last 24 hours.

Nearly 360,000 people have died in the giant country since the outbreak of the plague, the third highest in the world.

According to the French news agency, the previous record was in the United States, on February 12, with 5,527 deaths, which was partly due to the addition of untold early deaths.

Yesterday, the state of Bihar in eastern India raised its death toll by about 4,000 to almost 9,500 after examining the dead records.

This is after the state Supreme Court demanded an examination of the data after allegations that the local government was hiding the true extent of morbidity and mortality.

Similar allegations have been made against governments of other Indian states, after the recent eruption led to the collapse of crematoria in many places, and hundreds of bodies were dumped into rivers or buried in mass graves.

Official records in India are also sorely lacking even in routine times, and many experts believe that the death toll from Corona may be more than a million - the highest in the world.
