Daraa Governorate is one of the pioneering governorates in the cultivation of potatoes in its spring and autumn seasons, which provides large quantities for local consumption, which contributes to the stability of its prices and with the beginning of the process of harvesting the autumn potato crop in its cultivation areas, especially in the areas of Nawa and Azraa, amid high productivity indicators of up to 29 thousand tons, demanding its farmers By securing all their needs of production requirements, especially diesel fuel and fertilizer.
The economic SANA accompanied the process of harvesting the potato crop in the fields near the town of Shaqra, where the farmer Sitan Al-Jundi said that the farmers are suffering from the lack of quantities of fuel and fertilizer allocated to them, which forces the farmer to complete his needs from the private market at prices much higher than the official prices, pointing out that potato prices are currently high and the reason is Expensive production requirements and insufficient quantities allocated by the concerned authorities.
A number of farmers called for settling the conditions of the violating wells and including their owners with subsidized fuel allocations, and demanded that their needs be met by providing industrial diesel, which reduces the costs of agricultural production.
For his part, the Director of Agriculture, Engineer Bassam Al-Hashish, stated that Daraa Governorate is agricultural for excellence and production varies as a result of the farmer’s adoption of modern farming methods, indicating that the Directorate of Agriculture is following up the work of farmers in the field of facilitating the procedures for granting agricultural regulation and providing instructions and securing fuels for the purposes of plowing and watering through the sub-committee of fuels.
With regard to the potato crop, he added, the market today suffers from a shortage of potato with a rise in its prices, stressing that prices will begin to decline with the start of the harvesting process and its entry into the market in sufficient quantities, especially with the increase in cultivated areas.
Head of the Department of Planning and International Cooperation in the Directorate of Agriculture, Engineer Hassan Al-Ahmad, indicated that the potato crop is planted on two spring and autumn seasons, explaining that the plan for the spring crop in this season amounted to 1408 hectares, 2670 hectares were implemented, and for the fall crop 739 hectares, 1447 hectares were planted.
