The journey of the sculptor Issa Salama, who passed away yesterday at the age of 60, came to an end after a busy artistic career that exceeded 34 years in which he devoted himself to the art of sculpture, which he dealt with with an innate love and passion that was unparalleled.
Salameh did not receive the art of sculpture through a teacher or an academy, form a unique case of diligence in Syrian sculpture, and he adapted his chisel to various materials from wood to stone to form works full of beauty and spontaneity away from the classical art schools.
Salama was known for his diligence and patience in dealing with the most difficult materials, especially stone of all kinds, and his ability to adapt it and formulate works full of innateness that are close to man, whatever the level of his artistic and visual culture, to simulate with his works everyone and approach the climates of nature in which he lived and mixed with it.
On the human level, Salama was known for his kindness and love for his fellow sculptors, and he is present in most of the sculpture forums that have been held throughout Syria over the past years, presenting monumental works related to the raw material of stone that decorated many squares and streets of the country to keep his artistic imprint present after his departure.
The late sculptor Issa Salama was born in Baniyas, the village of Al-Darikiya in 1962. He is a member of the Federation of Syrian and Arab Plastic Artists. He has devoted himself to sculpture since 1987. He held many individual exhibitions. He also participated in group exhibitions and sculptural forums in all governorates. He received various certificates of appreciation and won prizes from several competitions.
