The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the “interfering and politicized” statements of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, regarding the events in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, stressing that these statements are “unprofessional, tendentious, and full of baseless accusations and misinformation.”
"These accusations ignore the intensive efforts made by officials in the government, judiciary, security and media to alleviate the suffering of the people of this province and solve the existing problems, and this is the most important evidence that the statement is politicized," the Iranian news agency "IRNA" quoted Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh as saying in a statement today. It lacks any consideration, and hence the High Commissioner’s statement is more like a political statement with hostile politeness than the words of an international human rights official,” noting that this comment is not the responsibility of the High Commissioner nor the institution under her responsibility has the authority and authority to comment on this issue.
Khatibzadeh added that the water crisis in Khuzestan is caused by a series of natural phenomena, especially this year's drought, as well as one of the consequences of unilateral coercive measures imposed on the country and the prevention of technology transfer and investment in the water sector in Khuzestan, wondering at the same time about the High Commissioner's lack of initiative so far To condemn the illegal US embargo imposed on the Iranian people, which has led to the violation of many basic human rights.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the Office of the High Commissioner's efforts focus on shedding light on minorities and stirring up division among the unified Iranian people, in line with the political program of the governments of some special countries whose hostility with the Iranian people is not hidden from anyone.
