Today, Iraq and Lebanon signed an agreement to sell one million tons of heavy fuel oil to the Lebanese side.
A statement by the media office of the Iraqi Prime Minister, carried by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that the agreement signed in Baghdad stipulates that Lebanon will sell one million tons of heavy fuel oil at the international price, provided that the payment will be with services and goods.
The agreement was signed on the Iraqi side by Finance Minister Ali Abdul-Amir Allawi, while the Lebanese Minister of Energy and Water Raymond Ghajar signed on the Lebanese side.
Lebanon suffers from a stifling fuel crisis and deteriorating economic conditions that have led to popular protests and sit-ins calling for an improvement in the standard of living.
