Since the Taliban came to power, the terrorist militia "Islamic State" has carried out regular attacks in Afghanistan. A senior US intelligence officer has now said that it could not stay that way.

The US intelligence services have come to the conclusion that the "Islamic State" in Afghanistan (IS-K) could be in a position to attack the United States within just six months.

One must also assume that the terrorist organization intends to do this, a senior Pentagon official told Congress on Tuesday.

According to a statement by political advisor Colin Kahl, it is still unclear whether the Taliban will be able to effectively fight IS-K after the US withdrew in August.

The two radical Islamic organizations are enemies.

After the Taliban came to power in Afghanistan, IS-K carried out several suicide attacks.

For example, 32 people were killed in an attack on a mosque in Kandahar, and at least 40 were killed in one such attack in Kunduz.

A Taliban police chief was killed with a car bomb in Kunar province.

Al-Qaeda could also become a threat again

Before Congress, Kahl estimated that the IS-K had a "cadre of several thousand" fighters.

He also warned against a resurgence of al-Qaeda.

It could take "a year or two" for al-Qaeda to be able to launch attacks outside Afghanistan against the United States.

"We have to be vigilant to stop that," said Kahl.

The Al-Qaida attacks of September 11, 2001 triggered the 20-year US mission to Afghanistan.

IS-K was founded in January 2015 as a regional offshoot of the IS terrorist militia.

He had proclaimed his caliphate in Syria and Iraq six months earlier and was there at the zenith of his power.

The IS leadership officially recognized IS-K as an offshoot.

Over the years she is said to have supported him with money.

According to their own statements, the Taliban are taking action against so-called IS in Afghanistan with special forces.
