(ANSAmed) - TEL AVIV, MAY 19 - Air of crisis in Naftali Bennett's government after today a left-wing Arab parliamentarian - Jida Rinawi Zoabi of the Meretz party - announced that she no longer considers herself part of the coalition.

Consequently, Bennett now effectively leads a minority government, with the support of the Knesset of only 59 deputies out of 120.

According to the media, Zoabi's move came as a total surprise not only for Bennett but also for the Meretz party itself, which immediately tried to dissuade it. , but so far in vain.

In an open letter Zoabi denounced that he could no longer identify with "radical and right-wing positions" taken by the government.

"The images seen on the Temple Mount of violent policemen against praying faithful and the funeral of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Akleh brought me to one conclusion: that's enough. I can no longer support a government that mistreats the society I come from."
