"Employment registered a decrease of almost 300 thousand units, which in the two months led to an overall decrease of 400 thousand employees and a percentage point in the employment rate", is underlined in the comment accompanying the estimates. 

The inactive, those who neither have nor are looking for a job, in April, the month of lockdown, rise by 746 thousand units. The institute speaks of "further strong growth in inactivity". 

In April, the unemployment rate dropped to 6.3% from 8.0% in March. Istat notes this. This is the minimum since November 2007.
