The Directorate of Agriculture in Sweida initially estimated the total production of lentils for the current season at about 149 tons, within the cultivated areas that reached 5900 dunums.

The assistant director of agriculture in Suwayda, Eng. Alaa Shuhayb, said in a statement to SANA's correspondent today that the cultivated areas with the crop for this season constitute 68 percent of its cultivation plan, referring to the failure to fully implement it due to the lack of sufficient stock of moisture in the soil during the months of January and February because the cultivation of the crop is rain-fed and depends on rain water. .

He added that the reality of crop growth is average to date, indicating that harvesting operations begin manually during the next month, pointing to the directorate’s encouragement for its cultivation due to its economic viability, as support compensation was paid to its farmers from the Ministry of Agriculture for the last season.

As-Suwayda Governorate produced 301 tons of lentils last season, within the cultivated areas amounting to 5160 dunums.
