Stand Up Adi Ashkenazi from "Ashkenazi Method" (Keshet 12)

Adi Ashkenazi, one of Keshet's veteran icons, returned to the Channel 12 screen yesterday and brought back to life the "Ashkenazi method", the late incarnation of the successful "What is this nonsense" that has been running for more than a decade. The concept is familiar and well-known: stand-up is combined with short and funny conversations with other people, which gives jokes some realistic anchor. What has changed? Basically nothing, except for a small plague that ran in the background.

On the table this time was "The Fourth Decade," 30-plus-year-olds, a kind of loose framework that allows Ashkenazi a way to tell both jokes about singles and the dating world as well as the difficulties of young parents, relationships within a family, and what the whole world has to say about it. Most of the time, these issues are the ones that are already within the rather narrow range of bourgeois Israeli humor on television, which we are careful not to deviate from. After all, you've all heard a thousand times jokes about married life, and you can expect exactly which familiar direction the punch will go.

This is not exactly a spectacular and groundbreaking starting point, and Ashkenazi does not invent the wheel or carve out some deep social criticism.

But Ashkenazi did not just reach her status: she just bursts out laughing, and the whole event rests on her tremendous charisma, faces, imitations and reactions - and that's all that matters, in fact.

This is what makes her an excellent comedian: even the most worn and known subject, she turns with the skill of a professional into an entertaining hour.

It's not a TV that will change your life or think about it in a week, but it's a lot.

Just before the end, Ashkenazi told one intriguing joke.

In another take on the emotional turmoil that women go through in the fourth decade of their lives, she advised men to lower their heads until the rage passes.

"You know that the leadership is wrong, and say: there will be elections - they will change," and stopped at once with a sharp look, of those who caught the gap between the joke and reality (presumably this segment was filmed when Israel did not seem to find a way to the fifth round). .

This is not a punch too sharp and very far from sharp satire.

At most a tiny sting towards reality.

But it was also a hint: if she had gone further - and through her talent, Ashkenazi could now present a tremendous comedy from the topical material that this country provides hour by hour.
