Italy: scorer with AC Milan at 19, Daniel is the worthy heir to the Maldini dynasty

The Maldini dynasty never seems to be extinguished in Calcio.

This Saturday, Daniel, grandson of Cesare Maldini and son of Paolo Maldini, two AC Milan legends, was established for the first time at 19 in Serie A, with the Rossoneri on the lawn of La Spezia during the 6th day this Saturday afternoon.

And for the occasion, the last of the Maldini opened the scoring with a header in the 48th minute, under the eyes of his father who did not hesitate to get up from his seat to applaud him, all smiles.

The last of the Maldini was established as a playmaker, behind Olivier Giroud, back at the top after missing several games due to coronavirus and then back pain.

Entered a few minutes in the Champions League in Liverpool - defeated 3-2 - on September 15, Daniel Maldini already has nine appearances in Serie A but each time he entered during the game.

His only two starts to date with the Rossoneri first team were in the Europa League last season.

The pressure of his predecessors is strong on the young midfielder, carrying the No. 27.

His father Paolo, 53, now sporting director of AC Milan, played more than 900 matches in all competitions with the Lombard club, where he played his entire career.

He has notably won five Champions Leagues and seven Italian league titles.

Paolo has 126 caps with Squadra Azzurra including 74 as captain.

His grandfather, Cesare Maldini, who died in 2016, spent most of his career in Milan, where he wore the colors from 1954 to 1966. He was crowned four times Italian champion with the Rossoneri and lifted the first of the seven C1 won by the club, in 1963. It has 14 selections for the national team, of which he was also the coach at the 1998 World Cup.

The Maldini family is the only one, along with the Sanchís and Busquets families, whose father and son managed to win the Champions League.

However, it has the particularity of being the only family to have had the victorious father and son of the Champions League with the captain's armband - Cesare in 1963 and Paolo in 2003 and 2007.
