The WTA announced that Tunisian Anas Jaber has become the first Arab player to advance among the top ten ranked women in the world after reaching the semi-finals of the Indian Wells Championship by defeating Estonian Annette Kontaveit.
After the match, Jaber said, "It's a great feeling. We worked hard for years, and when I spoke at the end of last season about my desire to get into the top ten, some doubted that, but we proved them wrong."
Jaber, 27, scored five of her 12 break points for her Estonian rival to achieve her 48th victory this season, more than any other player in the WTA tournaments.
Jaber reached the Chicago final earlier this month and became the first Arab player to win a WTA title when she won the Birmingham title in June.
