British Harry Potter author Joanne K. Rowling has been threatened online after the attack on writer Salman Rushdie.
She had expressed her horror at the violence on Twitter and wrote about Rushdie: "I hope he's okay." Another user then replied: "Don't worry, you're next." next«).
The award-winning author Rushdie was attacked and seriously injured on an open stage in the United States on Friday.
On Saturday, Rowling first reached out to Twitter itself for support.
The 57-year-old later thanked her fans for their encouragement and support and wrote that the police were involved and also because of other threats.
It's not the first time the star author has had to defend herself against online threats.
As early as November last year, Rowling said on Twitter that he had received so many death threats "that I could wallpaper the house with them".
Rowling has been controversial for comments about the status and rights of trans women.
Many accuse her of transphobia, which she herself denies.
Author Taslima Nasreen was also threatened on Twitter after showing solidarity with Rushdie.
