The right to vote is in jeopardy, and Joe Biden is ready to force Senate rules to protect him.
In a heated speech in Atlanta on Tuesday, the US president accused Republican elected officials in Georgia and other states across the country of undermining the foundations of American democracy.
By imposing electoral rules, which Biden says are reminiscent of the racial laws of the segregation era, these states aim to deny voters, especially blacks, the right to vote.
“It's not just here in Georgia
,” Biden said, “
19 states have passed laws that undermine the right to vote… and Republican lawmakers in several others have already announced their intention to step up their attacks… Their ultimate goal?
Make the will of the voters a mere suggestion, which states can respect or ignore. ”
