The 17-year-old broke a World Cup norm right away.

Karlsruhe/Penzberg - Track and field athlete Julia Rath has met the norm for participation in the Junior World Championships.

The 17-year-old from Penzberg, who competes for LAC Quelle Fürth, ran on Saturday at the "6.

long night of running” in Karlsruhe, the 3000 meter obstacle in 10:24:27 minutes.

She clearly undercut the standard time for U20 athletes (10:32:00) required by the DLV.

For Rath it was the first competition over the 3000 meter obstacle.

Women and U20 athletes ran together in the race, Julia Rath took seventh place with her time.

It was won by 26-year-old Amélie Svensson (LG Region Karlsruhe) in 10:03.61 minutes.

In order to actually be nominated for the U20 World Cup in Cali, Colombia (August 1 to 6), Rath still has to start at the "Bauhaus Juniors Gala" in Mannheim.

If she occupies one of the first two places there, she is sure to be at the World Cup.

An athlete from TSV Penzberg was also at the start in Karlsruhe.

Lucas Herbeck ran the 5000 meters;

with a time of 14:52.62 minutes he finished 13th in his run.

Although Nick Jäger had registered for the event, he decided not to take part.
