Just one more Fierant: weekly market before the end

The weekly market on the main street in Grafrath will soon be history.

The main and finance committee (HFA) of the municipal council recommends in any case to override the market statutes.

One reason could be the supermarket that has meanwhile opened on the main street.

For many, the market was no longer economical.

The baker / confectioner was last present in 2020, a supplier of poultry and snack products recently threw in the towel.

A food truck was only found for Wednesday.

According to Kennerknecht, the future must show whether the stand is economical for them.

The committee agreed that there was no point in just continuing to operate the market on a pro forma basis.

The committee unanimously recommended that the municipal council repeal the relevant statutes.

The end of the weekly market doesn't have to be permanent.

Mayor Markus Kennerknecht can imagine setting up a market at the train station.

The community recently acquired the area.

How things will go there in concrete terms, however, will still be an issue in the council body.
