The L'ensemble Wegele-Sagner presented new compositions to kick off the Geretsried concert series "Isar Summer".

Geretsried – Together with an international ensemble, the two Geretsried music teachers Peter Wegele and Florian Sagner presented their new CD "Storie" for the first time two months ago in the Kulturbühne Hinterhalt.

In the meantime, the versatile musicians have composed further pieces, which they presented at the start of the municipal concert series "Isarsommer" in the Ratsstubensaal.

Pieces influenced by jazz, bossa and cha-cha-cha

The instrumental pieces, which are influenced by the styles of jazz, bossa and cha-cha-cha, which were recorded in Palermo, Sicily, among other places, and edited in Sagner's Geretsrieder studio, went well with the midsummer weekend.

However, the warm temperatures also meant that more guests were sitting in the Ratsstuben beer garden than in the room with loose seating.

"You won't regret coming," pianist Wegele promised the just 26 visitors and kept his word.

Violinist Julia Massaro and drummer Sergio Cali had traveled all the way from Palermo, while Annedore Wienert (oboe, english horn) came from Berlin.

Wolfgang Roth (flute), Florian Sagner (trumpet, percussion) and Paul Tietze (bass) completed the seven-piece ensemble.

After the rather quiet opening pieces "Alba" and "Paco's Melancholia", Peter Wegele switched to a lively 5/4 time in "Cha Cha in Five for You".

The harmonious interplay of the quite different instruments was particularly evident in the bossa piece "Chorinhozinho", which ended the first half of the concert.

After a 15-minute ventilation break, Wegele personally invited the audience outside the hall to come in and presented a successful variation of "Sotto le stelle del jazz", a song by the famous Italian singer and pianist Paola Conte.

The septet dedicated another homage to the American composer George Gershwin.

"My Man's Gone Now" from the opera "Porgy and Bess" sounded even more nuanced than in the original.

With the encore “Que Bolá Palermo”, the ensemble said goodbye to the loudly applauding audience, who are already looking forward to the next CD release in the coming year.
