In the case of journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, who was killed in the West Bank, the Palestinian Authority handed over the bullet to forensic experts from the United States.
Palestinian prosecutor Akram Al-Chatib said the bullet should be examined by the US and then returned to the Palestinian Authority.
The authority had been assured that no changes would be made to the ball.
The journalist from the Al Jazeera TV channel died in early May during an Israeli military operation in Jenin in the northern West Bank.
Her death and clashes at her funeral in Jerusalem had sparked international dismay and outrage.
Israel wanted to investigate the incident together
Investigations by the Palestinian Authority and the UN, as well as research by journalists, revealed that she was killed by a shot by the Israeli military.
Israel initially blamed militant Palestinians, but later backtracked.
The origin of the shot could not be determined with certainty, it said.
The Palestinian Authority had refused to hand over the ball to Israel from the start.
Israel categorically denied that Israeli soldiers were shooting at journalists and offered to investigate the incident together with the Palestinians.
The journalist, who also had US citizenship, wore a bulletproof vest with the inscription “Press” and a protective helmet.
Another journalist was shot during the operation.
Al Jazeera has accused Israel of murder in the case.
UN Human Rights Commissioner Michelle Bachelet called on the Israeli authorities to launch a full and thorough investigation into the incident.
This also applies to the 58 Palestinians who, according to the UN count, have been killed by Israeli soldiers since the beginning of the year.
Israel conquered the West Bank and East Jerusalem in 1967.
The Palestinians, on the other hand, want the areas for a separate state of Palestine with East Jerusalem as the capital.
