The Ambassador for Special Missions in the Russian Foreign Ministry Nikolai Korshunov warned that the actions of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in the Arctic could lead to a military clash.
Korshunov told TASS: The recent statement by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg showed that the alliance considers economic cooperation between Russia and countries that do not have territories in the Arctic region as a threat to its security, and a justification for increasing its presence in the North.
Korchunov added: Such a conflict develops in the absence of any dialogue with the participation of countries that have territories in the Arctic, increases the risk of a conflict, and may provoke military accidents in the region.
He expressed his country's concern over the significant increase in NATO's activity in the Arctic region, including the activity of non-regional countries of the alliance such as Britain, stressing that Russia, as the largest country in that region, carries out wide tasks in favor of its development, and works and will do everything in its power to prevent such occurrences. these accidents.
